NEWS LETTER NUMBER 69

JULY2008

1.       Our next CONCERT is on Monday 21st JULY 2008

WHEN
TONY STACE

PRESENTS A CONCERT OF POPULAR MUSIC

ON THE

YAMAHA HX-1

 ELECTRONIC ORGAN

AT THE

CALSONIC KANSEI SOCIAL CLUB. LLANELLI AT 7:30 PM

ALL ARE WELCOME

This is Tony’s second Concert to our Society in Llanelli, his first at the Calsonic Social Club, previously his programme, at the RAFA Club on 16th July 2001, was brilliant. We thank Tony for making the journey from Yorkshire to entertain us and we know that we will enjoy a magnificent performance.

Tony recently proudly accepted the British Organ / Keyboard Player award for the second consecutive time. He has now linked up with Andrew Nix to produce their own, very successful, T & A Festivals. In fact on the weekend prior to his Concert with us he will be at, a fully booked, T & A Event at Mill Rythe Holiday Village, Hayling Island.

This is a Concert is not to be missed so please come along with your friends and neighbours to enjoy a wonderful evening of popular music.

2.      David Thomas gave our last Concert on the latest ‘pearl of Organ magnificence’ from Roland – the Atelier AT900 that has a full pedal board. My thanks, once again to Ray (Mathews), who provided the following excellent account:

                                                             i.       “David started appropriately with ‘This is a Lovely Way to Spend an Evening’ and followed with a medley of Irving Berlin tunes, all recognisable by the foot-tapping audience. Next came a very accurate weather forecast ‘Here’s that rainy day’, ‘Misty’ etc, etc, etc.. A Latin/American section followed, including ‘Perfida’ and ‘Besamucho’. David finished the first half with a selection of Hoagy Carmichael numbers.

The second half started with a medley of popular tunes including ‘Tenderly’, ‘Moonlight in Vermont’, plus some quality music from ‘Porgy and Bess’. Next came a selection of well-known marches followed by the ever-popular “Glen Miller Sound”. He concluded with a brilliant rendition of John Miles’ ‘Music is my First Love’.

Again, a great concert by a great artist – it was a pity that so few were able to attend”.

3.      We had an enjoyable Club Meeting on 16th June 2008 with so many playing our Club TYROS. This turned out to be a splendid musical evening.

Many thanks to all who participated on the night.

4.      Unfortunately we have had no nominations to date for the vacancies of Chairman & Hon. Treasurer for the 2008 – 2009 year. This has now reached a very serious stage and the current Committee is re-making another urgent appeal for nominations to be submitted.
